KUCHING: Intense military movements were seen in Lahad Datu late yesterday evening.
Reports reaching here late last night said the security forces were deploying troops in phases to move in on locations where the intruders were sighted.
Sources said they would focus on Tanjung Labian where armed men were seen near the villages which had been declared as red zones by the authorities.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib confirmed Tanjung Labain and another village – Tanjung Batu- had been declared as red zones.
Tanjung Labian is about 5km from Kampung Tanduo where the original group of about 200 gunmen are holed up.
However, Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar and Armed Forces chief Gen Zulkifeli Mohd Zin have been tight-lipped on the move.
Villagers in Tanjung Labian were evacuated after gunmen were spotted.
